TJ Goes to PERU June 25 to July 9 2013

To empower participating youth with a blend of indigenous wisdom and human potential practices

This summer 2013, twelve teens will have the opportunity to experience a real community that has remained committed and rooted in their tradition for hundreds if not thousands of years. In the Quechua language there is a word for this tradition called “Ayllu” – the big family, the community that works together, that shares life together and a spiritual practice while also being in service to one another and to the larger whole.

You will discover yourselves by experiencing the depth, wisdom and traditions of Peruvian culture. On this once-in-a-lifetime journey, you will encounter the Ancient Andean healing path of a Curandero (traditional healer) as you walk each step on this intimate pilgrimage to the sacred sites and temples in Cusco, the Sacred Valley, mystical Machu Picchu and the Amazon rainforest. Your leaders will share Andean techniques for healing and transformation and weave together ceremony, ritual and initiation as a part of each day. We will also have time for personal reflection and connection with Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the Apus (Mountain Spirits).

Rite of Passage Trekking Expedition to Apu Salkantay

Our journey will begin with a 3 day trek along one of the most beautiful trails and mountain passes in Peru ~ to Apu Salkantay. Salkantay is connected to Apu Ausangate via the Milky Way and “the sacred river in the sky”.
Though we will have the support of kitchen staff and pack animals, this mountain trek will challenge your body, mind and spirit to help you discover parts of yourself you never knew you had.

As young leaders on the Rite of Passage you will have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a pilgrimage to the highly respected mountain glacier that the Inca people honoured by building the temples in Machu Picchu as a form of reverence and acknowledgement.

We will travel along the high mountain passes and then connect with the beginnings of the jungle climate as we culminate our sacred expedition at the magical and mystical site of Machu Picchu.
